16oz King Cut Prime Rib
Smoked all day, topped with a house-made garlic, horseradish and rosemary crust, served with au jus. From 4pm until it's gone.
On the menu →Certified Angus steaks, house-smoked King Cut prime rib and a hand-painted dining room — in a town of eight hundred, fifteen minutes from Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Half the reviews start with the same two words: hidden gem.
Kitchen, bar and front of house. Closed Sundays and Mondays, so you actually get two days off — the same two, every week. No experience needed for some of it.
Coarse pepper and salt, fat cap scored by hand. Nothing has seen heat yet.
Sixteen ounces, garlic horseradish and rosemary on top, au jus alongside — $44.99. We smoke a set number and when they're gone that's the week. No reservations, no holding one back.

Main Street, BelfieldBelfield isn't on the way to anywhere in particular unless you're headed for the Badlands — which, in summer, most people are. What catches them out is the food. You expect a small-town bar. You get Certified Angus beef, a prime rib that's been in smoke since morning, and a room somebody actually painted by hand.
Sirloin, New York strip, ribeye. Not a chain's portion-controlled patty in a bag.
The prime rib, the brisket, the pulled pork and the wings all go through our own smoker.
Nate and Rhoda Dutchak. He runs the fire. She painted the wall.
Which sounds like faint praise until you've eaten here.
“Talk about an absolute hidden gem! This food is delicious… the burgers we had were VERY juicy and tasted amazing. Even the fries were good!”

★★★★★“Excellent ribeye! My Bloody Mary made exactly as asked and delicious. There were only 2 waitresses working a busy night and bar but they knew how to multi task while staying kind and attentive.”

The whole menu is ninety items deep. These are the ones people drive back for.

Blackened, coffee-seasoned patty with pepper jack, bacon, pulled pork and brisket in Burly sauce — all of it inside a grilled cheese sandwich.

“Excellent ribeye” is a direct quote from a review, and it's the steak we'd point a first-timer at any night of the week.

Painted by handRhoda Dutchak co-owns Burly's and she's a working artist — RJD Studio. The mural on the dining room wall is hers, done by hand, on site. It is not vinyl, it is not a print, and it is not something you will find in the chain restaurants forty minutes east.
It's the clearest signal of what this place is: a room two people actually built, in a town they actually live in.
Nate & Rhoda's story →
Rhoda is a Native American artist and photographer working in acrylics and fine art photography — the same Badlands you drove through to get here. The wildlife photography hanging in the restaurant is hers, and it is available — ask any of the staff, or get in touch through the studio. Originals, archival prints and commissions are at rjdvisualartstudio.com.
The barBelfield sits right where I-94 meets Highway 85, which makes it the last real meal before the Theodore Roosevelt National Park south unit — and the first one after. If you've spent a day at the Painted Canyon you have earned a steak, and there isn't a better one within an hour.
Hike in the morning, eat here at four, be at your motel by seven.
Boots and dust are fine. Nobody here is dressing for dinner.
Travelling in a pack? Ring ahead and we'll make the room work.
This gallery is built and waiting. Real plates from real nights beat anything else you can put on a restaurant website — and Burly's already has them on Facebook.
Straight off I-94. Park on the street, walk in, sit down.
Winter hours. Summer hours run longer — give us a ring if you're travelling.
Everything about visiting →No reservations — just walk in. Bringing more than eight, give us a call and we'll sort the table.
